Thai police find bodies of six Vietnamese in hotel with apparent signs of intoxication

Thai police found the bodies of six Vietnamese citizens in a room at a luxury hotel in the capital, Bangkok, on Tuesday. Authorities are considering the possibility that the victims suffered from food poisoning.

The victims, three women and three men, were found at around 5:30 p.m. (local time) inside a room at the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel, located in the Pathum Wan district, with no apparent signs of physical violence.

Investigators have identified the deceased as six Vietnamese citizens, two of them with US nationality. According to initial investigations, they died of poisoning, although the cause is not yet known.

Officers found untouched plates of food inside the room and half-drunk glasses of tea. The suitcases of the six tourists were packed. Authorities are looking for a seventh person who was registered at the hotel.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the scene on Tuesday evening and said initial investigations indicated the victims had been dead for 24 hours before they were found, the Bangkok Post reported.
