After two years suspended due to the Covid-19 health emergency, November 5 returns to UdeC on Tetraktys Mathematics Festivala contest that brings together students from first to fourth grade around the resolution of mathematical problems.
The competition, which is now in its fifth version, is organized by the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, through its Mathematics, Statistical Engineering and Mathematical Civil Engineering degrees, and its purpose is to motivate the interest of young people in the area, in addition to promoting camaraderie and teamwork.
“This activity has been emblematic for many years and it is good to resume it now that we have returned to face-to-face activities. One of the characteristics is that it allows students to interact with people from the faculty; On the one hand, they participate by showing their mathematical skills and, on the other hand, they are taught things they do not know”, said the dean of Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Roberto Riquelme Sepulvedaalso highlighting the teamwork that promotes competition.
“This festival is extremely important for us, because our six careers are based on mathematics; It does not mean that someone who comes to this festival is going to study mathematics necessarily, but it can show the skills that she has and find some idea of what he can follow in the future, ”she added.
At the close of the call, the organization counted a total of 90 participants from 12 establishments in the Biobío and Ñuble regions.
The students, distributed in groups of three and accompanied by a teacher who sponsors them, will live the challenge of putting their skills, creativity and ingenuity to the test to Solve as many problems as possible in arithmetic, logic, geometry, statistics and probabilities, in a limited amount of time.
The V Mathematics Festival, Tetraktys 2022, will take place in the facilities of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, on Saturday, November 5, between 10 and 14 hours.
