How is this new plant different from the one in Monterrey?
While the Megapack will be manufactured in Shanghai, in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, Tesla would have the capacity to build up to 750,000 vehicles per year, that is, 22.6% of the total production of cars in Mexico during 2022, according to information from the Mexican Association. of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).
“With the data we have, based on what they have in other plants, we are forecasting a scenario of around 250,000 units and up to a maximum of 750,000 units. We do not have the details, there has not been anything formal, but these are forecasts that are being made,” said Odracir Barquera, director of the organization.
The AMIA also estimated that this number will allow the goal of reaching 5 million units produced in Mexico per year to be resumed, from a historical maximum reached in 2019, when close to 4 million units were assembled.
