Winter is here, and with it comes headaches for electric car drivers. But Tesla has decided to give an early gift to its users with an update that promises to make life easier on cold days.
The new update 2024.44.3.1 comes with a feature that they have been asking for for years: the ability to defrost the charging port independently. Until now, if you wanted to remove ice from the charging port, you had to activate the defrost of the entire car, which meant wasting energy in a very unnecessary way.
To activate this feature, users who have it available will only have to go to “Controls, Service, Charging Port Heater”. However, although it seems simple, here comes the “but”: for now, This update is limited to a small group of vehicles. Tesla has not specified when it will extend it to the rest of the fleet.
Of course, it is very likely that Elon Musk’s company will extend it to more models in future updates. Likewise, it is true that in Spain the extreme cold that can be experienced in some areas of the United States or Canada has little to do with it.
Independent defrosting of the charging port: a long-awaited feature for years
Add that this update is Tesla’s response to an issue dating back to 2018when the first Model 3s began to experience quite a few problems in cold climates. Users complained that they could not open the doors or the charging port due to ice.
Tesla, at that time, did release software updates, but until now, the defrosting of the charging port was always linked to the rest of the car.
This new function now joins others that Tesla has included precisely to combat the cold, such as preheating the cabin, making it clear that the brand is really listening to the requests of all those users who live in icy conditions at this time.
