Tension grows on the Esplanade of the Mosques in the middle of the offensive in Gaza

Aug. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Dozens of groups of Israelis have made an appearance this Sunday on the Esplanade of the Mosques (or Temple Mount, for the Jews) championed by the ultra-nationalist deputy Itamar Ben Gvir in a gesture that has forced an increase in the police presence given the tension prevailing due to the current confrontation between Israel and the Islamic Jihad terrorist group in the Gaza Strip.

The photographer of the France Press agency, Ahmad Gharabli, has denounced that he was attacked by the Police and held for half an hour while documenting the deputy’s visit. The Police have denied all mistreatment, according to the newspaper ‘Haaretz’.

The newspaper’s sources have estimated that approximately 800 Jews have already arrived at the site for the events of Tisha B’Av, the main day of fast and abstinence in Rabbinic Judaism and which commemorates the destruction of Jerusalem’s temples.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry has regretted the presence of the deputy and warned of the “serious consequences” that these “violations of stability” entail.

“It is an absurd and irresponsible act that exacerbates tension and pushes the situation into a continuous cycle of violence,” adds the Jordanian ministry, guarantor of the holy places.
