Tens of thousands of Israelis defend judicial reform in a counter-demonstration

March 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Tens of thousands of protesters have gathered this Monday before the headquarters of the Supreme Court, in Jerusalem, to express their support for the judicial reform promoted by the Government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“The people demand judicial reform”, “I am not a second-class citizen” or “They are stealing the elections”, the attendees chanted, according to the Israeli newspaper ‘The Jerusalem Post’.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, from Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Likud party, has called for de-escalation and avoiding violence.

“We are in a sensitive, stormy and delicate moment. There are no enemies. There is a nation divided by the path we have to take and that awaits better days. Let’s meet this objective, together,” he indicated, according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

This same Monday, more than 100,000 demonstrators have protested in front of the headquarters of the Knesset or Israeli Parliament after the sudden dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who had asked on Saturday to paralyze the processing of the controversial judicial reform that has caused a deep crisis politics in the country.

In Tel Aviv, the epicenter of the protests, protesters have once again blocked traffic on the Ayalon highway. There have also been mobilizations in Haifa and Beersheba.
