Ten people die in the collapse of a building in Aleppo, Syria

Sep. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least ten people have died from the collapse of an apartment building in the city of Aleppo, located in northern Syria, as confirmed by the authorities, who have indicated that two other people have been rescued alive from the rubble.

Police officer Dib Dib has detailed that the five-storey building “has totally collapsed”, before adding that rescue teams are trying to evacuate residents from nearby buildings, as reported by the Syrian state agency of news, HEALTH.

Likewise, the head of the Aleppo Local Council, Maad al Jabali, has highlighted that the building, located in the Al Ferdaus neighborhood, was in an area “destroyed by terrorism”. “It was built without an architectural plan and contrary to public safety,” he lamented.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has pointed out that this area of the city “was the target of artillery attacks” during the war. Many buildings in Aleppo have been destroyed or severely damaged by the conflict, which erupted in 2011 following the violent crackdown on pro-democracy protests during the ‘Arab Spring’.
