Ten people who make up the Citizen Council of Podemos Castilla-La Mancha have announced their “irrevocable resignation from the highest body of the leadership of Podemos” in a letter addressed to the militancy to which they have had access elDiarioclm.es and that has as its first reason “the bad results of the last municipal and regional elections.”
Gascón confirms that he does not resign despite the results of 28M and will continue to lead Podemos Castilla-La Mancha
Further
Precisely this Wednesday, the regional leader of Podemos has assured that he will not resign despite the results of May 28. José Luis García Gascón led the candidacy with which the United We Can confluence ran for the Presidency of the Board without winning a single seat in the regional Parliament.
The document is signed, among other people, by Helena Galán, who in 2020 challenged García Gascón for the direction of the purple formation in Castilla-La Mancha. Today, the signatory counselors – María Pérez Segovia, María Carmen Sáez, Enrique García Ruiz, Ana Isabel del Val, Helena Galán, Tomás Vela Homedes, José Luis Resuela, José Luis Hernández, Marta Miranda and Cristina Barrer – believe that bad The electoral results “show that the strident strategy of the current leadership only has an echo within our party, appearing irrelevant and scaring away for the progressive voters of the region whom we aspire to represent.”
They offer data. In 2019, electoral support for the United We Can coalition was 7%. In 2023 support fell three points to 4%. In the opinion of those who choose to leave “these results have been obtained after using a significant amount of resources to release the regional coordinator and various members of the management.”
“Lack of will to agree in the regional and state direction”
The second reason they offer to resign is “the lack of political will to reach agreements with other forces and the egomania of the current regional coordinator”, alluding to García Gascón who, they assert, “neither knows limits nor does he allow himself to be advised by people that we do not share his strategy”.
And then they charge against the state leadership because they believe that “the same situation is being reproduced” and they regret that “a historic electoral bump had to take place to begin to show will in agreement with Vice President Yolanda Díaz and Sumar’s project.”
Gascón blamed García-Page for the results of United We Can
The candidate for the Presidency of the Board and regional coordinator of Podemos Castilla-La Mancha José Luis García Gascón blamed the president-elect Emiliano García-Page for the results during election night after conveying his congratulations on the new absolute majority.
“He has been about to bring the extreme right into our autonomous community,” he said and attributed it to the PSOE and the García-Page campaign. “Because of the campaign of the useful vote, of the attack on the left and because of not reforming the electoral law.” In this sense, he said, “it is a consolation and it is a joy that the extreme right of Vox is not going to govern in this legislature in Castilla-La Mancha.”
In his opinion, the results are due “to a lack of courage in the progressive space of our country that implies a decline of all the parties of the left in Spain. The progressive bloc needs more strength, more courage and above all to solve the problems that this crisis has brought to the people”.
And this is precisely the third reason for the resignations announced today in Podemos. They point out that the “total loss of political horizon of the current coordinator poses a danger for progressive governments” and suggest that this is evidenced in the speech given by José Luis García Gascón on election night when he blamed Emiliano García-Page for the electoral results. for having attacked him.
Nor do they agree with the electoral campaign dedicated “fervently to attacking the PSOE instead of explaining its program and trying to mobilize its electorate. All this happens after a significant amount of resources to release the regional coordinator, and several members of the leadership, and different people by hand not elected in the citizen assembly ”, they insist.
We hope that the person most responsible resigns, since it was his candidacy, it was his campaign and it was his ways of carrying it out that have brought the loss of 30,000 votes and the virtual disappearance of the party in the region.
Later they clarify that although they could have resigned earlier “like other compañeros and compañeras, we always maintained the hope that there would come a time when we could finally talk and reach a consensus; what’s more, we even came to think that during the campaign we would be taken into account as part of the party”. It didn’t happen.
Now they explain that resigning has not been a “tough” decision and that it did not occur before due to “political responsibility”, but that “everything has a limit” so they leave all positions in Podemos Castilla-La Mancha.
“We hope that the person most responsible does the same, since it was his candidacy, it was his campaign and it was his ways of carrying it out that have brought the loss of 30,000 votes and the virtual disappearance of the party in the region.”
From the statement it can be deduced that they do not rule out the possibility of joining Yolanda Díaz’s project. “We look to the future in which we will be working for our region, for Spain and for a progressive horizon in the platform or movement that pursues the purposes for which our party was born.”
Both Más País and IU Castilla-La Mancha urged in the last hours to expedite the agreement for a confluence in Sumar. García Gascón has avoided ruling on this issue today during a statement in Manzanares.
