Ten civilians killed in eastern DRC in attack blamed on group linked to Islamic State

MADRID Jan. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least ten people have died in an attack carried out by alleged members of the armed group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), linked to the Islamic State, against a town located in the province of North Kivu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). .

The administrator of Lubero territory, Colonel Kiwewa Mitela, has indicated that the attack was carried out on Wednesday against the town of Makoko. “Our defense elements work to guarantee the security of the population,” he said.

Likewise, César Kambale Mughutha, president of a civil organization in Baswagha, has said that “a dozen” civilians have died in the attack, with no claim of responsibility for now, according to the Congolese news portal 7sur7.

The group emerged in the 1990s in Uganda and is especially active in eastern DRC, where it has murdered thousands of civilians. The group suffered a split in 2019 after its leader swore allegiance to the Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), under whose banner it has acted since then.
