At least ten civilians have been killed by mistake after a bombing by the Nigerian Air Force against two villages in Silame, a town in the state of Sokoto, located in the northeast of the country, an incident that is already being investigated by the authorities of the African country. .
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has indicated in a statement that the projectile was launched the day before by a fighter plane against targets of the Lakurawa jihadist group, linked to the Islamic State, although it mistakenly hit the communities of Gidan Bisa and Runtawa.
The incident, which is already being investigated by the authorities, also caused “the loss of animals” as well as the “destruction of food.” NEMA has reported that the Governor of Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, has visited the affected communities and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
For his part, the Air Force spokesperson, Olusola Akinboyewa, has reported that the attack was carried out based on “credible” intelligence information, although he has assured that he will conduct a thorough investigation into the death of these civilians. , according to the newspaper ‘The Daily Trust’.
