In a letter sent to the president, the Union celebrated the elimination of the telecommunications regulator, in the recent reform of the Organic Law of Public Administration, cataloging the movement as a step towards “transparency and adequate regulation of the sector; However, he specified that to materialize progress it is necessary to completely eliminate the regulation of América Móvil.
“(If not done) this change will be truncated if preponderance is not repealed, a neoliberal measure that inhibits investment in this strategic sector for the country,” the Union warned in the letter sent to the president.
The Union has been a critic of the Federal Telecommunications Institute, pointing out on several occasions that the regulation that governs the company controlled by Carlos Slim has prevented the company from entering the pay television market and thus its convergence in the industry. .
Added to an inhibition of investments by América Móvil to promote the deployment of infrastructure in the country and even in areas where internet services do not yet reach.
“We are certain that with the new institutions and their powers they will allow the Federal Government to have adequate tools and a State strategy to make the second floor of the fourth transformation viable,” said the STRM.
After the approval of the Organic Simplification reform, the powers of the IFT will pass to two decentralized entities in Economy and the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency, but giving continuity to the regulation of América Móvil, whose operator maintains the concentration of the mobile market, income and even infrastructure, despite the imposition of a regulatory framework.
