Telefónica is “investigating the legitimacy of the information” that a user and potential cybercriminal has published on an online hacker forum in which he claims to have obtained the data of 120,000 users and employees of the Spanish company, which he would have put up for sale. .
In this context, as company sources have informed Europa Press, the Spanish telecom company is investigating this alleged leak and the veracity of the information, which indicates that the security breach that gave rise to access to this data took place last March. , as revealed through the X social network by the cybersecurity company HackManac.
The operator is studying the situation to determine whether the claims made by the potential cybercriminal are true or not and also to clarify whether, if this security breach has actually occurred, the vulnerability had to do with an external provider.
In that sense, the data that the potential cybercriminal would supposedly have in his possession is not information that is considered sensitive, given that it is not bank accounts or email passwords.
In the message published on the hacker forum, the user states that he has put the supposedly stolen database up for sale because it is of no use to him. “But surely for someone it is,” he adds.
It is worth remembering that in the middle of this same month, Santander reported “unauthorized access” to a database of the financial institution hosted by a provider that affected clients from Spain, Chile and Uruguay, as well as all employees already some former employees of the group.
