At least three telecommunications companies in France have suffered several sabotage attacks during the night, which has caused the inhabitants of six departments to wake up with problems on the network. The Government has already denounced “with the utmost firmness” these acts that it describes as “cowardly and irresponsible”.
On the one hand, the telecommunications company SFR has reported that this morning it has suffered a series of cuts in the fibre cables that have affected the departments of Hérault, Bouches-du-Rhône and Drome, in the south-east of the country; in Oise and Meuse, in the north; and the department of Aude, in the south.
Along the same lines, the teleoperator Free has acknowledged to ‘Le Parisien’ that during the morning there was “an incident in the multi-operator network”. “All our teams are currently mobilised to restore the situation,” the company added on its social media profile.
The Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, Marina Ferrani, has confirmed the incident and has guaranteed that she will monitor the situation “until communications and services are fully restored.” “I condemn in the strongest terms these cowardly and irresponsible acts,” she added.
The number of users affected by this sabotage is currently unknown, although Ferrani has indicated that the incident “has localized consequences for access to fiber, landline telephony and mobile telephony.”
Although the incident occurred in the context of the Olympic Games in Paris, the organisation of the Games has not been affected. On Friday, a large-scale sabotage of the country’s railway service had already occurred, leading to numerous cancellations and delays.
