When we talk about folding phones, we usually think of Samsung’s proposals, such as the Galaxy Z Fold4 or the Galaxy Z Flip4. The Huawei Mate Xs 2 may also come to mind. If, on the other hand, they mention a proposal whose manufacturer is Technoit is very likely that both the brand and the device are not familiar to us.

That we have not heard of Tecno does not mean that the manufacturer, at least on paper, has nothing interesting to offer us. In fact, its first foldable phone, the Phantom V Fold, has a set of features that are guaranteed to not go unnoticed. Precisely, this has been presented during CES 2023event that we are covering in Xataka.

A flip phone with a book-style design

The Phantom V Fold bills itself as a foldable book smartphone that, thanks to its hinged opening mechanism, can quickly become a tablet of sorts. The screen external is 6.42 inches and resolution of 1080 x 2550 pixels. The internal one, for its part, boasts 7.85 inches and a resolution of 2296 x 2000 pixels, according to GMS Arena.

In both cases, the panels chosen by the manufacturer have OLED technology, offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz and promise a maximum peak brightness of only 1,100 nits. At the processor level we find the Mediatek Dimensity 9000+, one of the proposals designed to face the best of Qualcomm and that focuses on performance.

The company says that the phone comes with 12 GB of RAM and storage in 256 or 512 GB. As for the battery, the device incorporates some generous 5,000mAh capacity. It can be charged with the included 45 W charger up to 40% in 15 minutes. There are also stereo speakers and a side fingerprint sensor.

A section in which the Phantom V Fold is not far behind is in photography. The camera module does not go unnoticed due to its enormous dimensions. Specifically, we have a 50 MP wide angle sensor, a 50 MP telephoto lens and a 13 MP ultra wide angle. In addition there is a 32 MP camera on the external screen and a 16 MP internal one.

Honor Vs, first impressions: a foldable value for money with much to prove

Turning to the software section, the device works with HiOS 13 Fold, a layer of Tecno based on Android 13. At the price level, according to Engadgetwe find a terminal whose price will start in the $1,099 in India, one of the strongest markets of the brand. At the moment we do not know if it will reach other markets.
