Technical table establishes national census for March 2024

First modification:

After four days of work by the technical table, the Government of Bolivia reported that the conclusion is that the census can be carried out between March and April 2024.

As this Wednesday marks 19 days of strike, blockades and protests in Santa Cruz, for the national census to be carried out in 2023, Bolivian President Luis Arce faces his worst crisis since he was sworn in two years ago.

The Bolivian Government has concluded the meeting of the technical table that was installed to analyze the possibility of advancing the national survey to 2023, but determined that this is not possible and announced that it will be done a month earlier than already established, that is, in March 2024.

Shortly before this announcement, the regional opposition technicians left the dialogue, regretting that their proposals had not been taken into account, declaring that the strike in Santa Cruz continues and that they will tighten measures. As an effect of the breakdown of these talks, clashes between supporters of the ruling party and the opposition returned in provincial areas.

Added to this situation is an internal crisis in the ruling Movement for Socialism party, the MAS, given the latest statements on Twitter by former President Evo Morales who suggested that Luis Arce and Vice President David Choquehuanca are traitors. Analysts agree that it is because the current leaders would be determined to participate as candidates in the 2025 elections.
