() — Target recalled nearly 5 million Threshold-brand candles packaged in glass jars because the glass can “break or crack” when used, “posing a risk of laceration and burns,” the Commission said Friday. Safety of Consumer Products.
The dealer received 137 reports of jars breaking or cracking when the candle was burning, resulting in six injuries including deep cuts and severe burns, according to the agency.
Listed on the recalled candles are 37 different types, with scents ranging from apple blossom and breeze to leather and amber.
Recalled candles include 5.5-ounce 1-wick, 14-ounce 3-wick, and 20-ounce 3-wick. The numbers of the recalled products are on the site of the US Consumer Protection Commission. (CPSC), and consumers can check the bottom of mason jars to see if the numbers match.
The 4.9 million candles were sold in Target stores across the country from August 2019 to March 2023.
In a statement, Target said it is “committed to providing safe, high-quality products to our customers.” The store recalled certain Threshold candles due to potential safety concerns identified in the CPSC news release.”
The CPSC said consumers should stop using the affected candles “immediately” and return them to Target for a full refund, or contact the retailer for a prepaid return label.
