Taliban ban Afghan women from amusement parks

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 9 (DPA/EP) –

Iranian authorities have ordered the owners of all amusement parks in Afghanistan to ban women from entering, adding to the restrictions imposed by fundamentalists on women since they came to power in August 2021.

The spokesman for the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, the Taliban morality police, Mohammad Sadeq Akif Muhajir, confirmed this new restriction in statements to DPA, but did not want to comment on the reason for it.

In March, the aforementioned Ministry ordered all amusement parks in the city of Kabul to segregate the public by gender.

The Taliban have also banned secondary education for girls, and women’s job options outside the home have been severely curtailed.

Afghan feminist activist Munesa Mubarez has accused the Taliban of using women as a tool for political gain. “These restrictions are like kidnapping someone and there is no room for a religious or humanitarian approach,” Mubarez told DPA.
