The Taliban have reported the death of a local imam, a supporter of the current Kabul mandate, following an explosion at a mosque in Herat province, in northwestern Afghanistan, during Friday prayers.

Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has expressed his condolences, stating that the religious scholar, Mujib Rahman Ansari, has been killed in a “cowardly attack by the enemies of religion”, Tolo News reported.

The exact number of deaths and injuries from the explosion, which occurred around 12:40 p.m. (local time), is not known, but different sources in the province assure that the balance could reach 20 people, according to the Jaama news agency. .

The imam, 38, was a staunch supporter of the Taliban and once declared that any attack, idea or movement against “the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” should end in beheading. He also stated that a man who has a wife who does not fully cover herself in public is a “coward.”

So far, no person or group has claimed responsibility for this explosion. The country continues to suffer attacks on a regular basis, mostly claimed by the affiliate in the country of the Islamic State terrorist group.
