A Taiwan warship and a Chinese fishing They collided In the early hours of Thursday off the coast of the city of Taichung, on the west of the island. The incident, which did not leave victims or injured, was confirmed by military sources.
The collision occurred at 00:38 on Thursday (16:38 GMT on Wednesday), when the Taiwanese landing vessel Chung Ho and Chinese fishing machine Minclianyu 61756 impacted slightly 45 nautical miles (83.3 kilometers) of the port of Taichung, according to the Taiwanese Navy in an official statement.
“No member of the crew of both vessels was injured and the damages suffered did not compromise the safety of navigation,” said the Navy.
After the incident, Taiwan’s coast guard deployed two vessels to collect evidence at the place of the event. “An investigation will be carried out according to the relevant regulations to clarify the attribution of responsibilities,” the statement added without providing more details.
The episode could increase tension in relations between China and Taiwan, already delicate. Since 1949, the island is governed autonomously, but Beijing considers it an “inalienable part” of its territory and has not ruled out the use of force to unify it with the continent.
