The 21st Century Trade Initiative Negotiating Conference between Taiwan and the United States concluded successfully in Taipei, with both sides pledging to further expand already strong economic and trade ties.
Organized under the auspices of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States and the American Institute in Taiwan, the event was convened by Yang Jen-ni, deputy trade representative of the Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN). at the Cabinet level, and USTR Assistant Trade Negotiator Terry McCartin.
According to the OTN, the US delegation was made up of officials from more than 20 agencies, including the Departments of State, Treasury, Commerce and Agriculture, and stressed the importance that Washington attaches to trade relations with Taiwan.

During the four-day round of talks, both sides exchanged views on proposed texts covering the fight against corruption, good regulatory practices, internal regulation of services, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the facilitation of Commerce.
They also reached a consensus in various areas and agreed to maintain a schedule of negotiations in the coming months.
The OTN hopes that the discussions will lead to expedited customs clearance and verification procedures, greater transparency and multiple cooperation platforms that allow the two sides to address trade and investment obstacles more efficiently.
Launched on June 1, 2022, the Taiwan-US 21st Century Trade Initiative covers key areas such as the digital economy, trade facilitation, improved regulatory practices, environmental and climate action, advocacy of standards, and the management of non-commercial policies and practices.
