15 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Taiwan’s parliament approved a labour reform on Monday that allows workers to continue working beyond the mandatory retirement age of 65 in exchange for full pay and provided there is an agreement between the company and the employee.
The Ministry of Labour has stressed that the reform will allow companies to encourage workers who have the necessary conditions to continue contributing in the workplace while respecting their rights. However, unions have already criticised the measure.
The government also points out that Article 12 of the Law on the Promotion of Employment of the Elderly already provides for the prohibition of “differential treatment” in wages or rights based on age, reports the Taiwanese news agency CNA.
Failure to comply is subject to fines of between 300,000 New Taiwan dollars (8,440 euros) and 1.5 million New Taiwan dollars (42,200 euros) and the publication of the identifying details of the person responsible for the infringement.
