Taiwan thanks the United States for the most recent arms sale

The agreements, initiated at the behest of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the US, include a Switchblade 300 anti-personnel loitering missile system and Altius 600M-V anti-armor unmanned aerial vehicles, along with equipment, support and training related. The sales will help meet Taiwan’s defense and combat readiness needs.

This is the 15th round of arms sales announced by the Administration of US President Joe Biden since 2021, demonstrating the importance that the US Government attaches to peace and stability on both sides of the Strait, commented the Presidential Office of Taiwan. The decision underscores Washington’s commitment to strengthening the partnership with Taiwan and maintaining the status quo regional in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Guarantees, he added.

For its part, the MOFA pointed out that the sales package is the second of June and reflects the normalization of arms sales to Taiwan by the North American power in recent years.

The United States and other like-minded partners, on the other hand, have repeatedly called on China to cease both its gray zone tactics aimed at intimidating Taiwan and neighboring countries, and its provocative military coercion against democracies in the region. In the face of such threats, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry announced the nation remains resolutely determined to defend its free and democratic way of life by enhancing its self-defense and asymmetric combat capabilities.

The Taiwanese government will continue to deepen its security partnership with the United States to jointly safeguard the rules-based international order and promote peace, stability and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and throughout the Indo-Pacific, MOFA assured.
