Taiwan thanks G7 for supporting peace

Taiwan G7

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), celebrated a statement issued by the G7 foreign ministers, in which they reaffirm the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

In the same statement, the G7 also demonstrated their support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, including the World Health Assembly (WHA) and World Health Organization (WHO) technical meetings.

According to the MOFA, the ministers also reiterated the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific, and seriously expressed concern about the situation in the South China Sea and East China Sea. Furthermore, they strongly opposed any unilateral attempt to change the status quo through force or coercion.

“The statement reminded China of the need to uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and to refrain from threatening, coercing, intimidating or using force,” the Taiwanese ministry added.

The MOFA noted that Beijing responded to the statement with its usual strategy of distorting the facts and “falsely asserted that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.” Taiwan strongly protested the statement, noting that only the Taiwanese people can decide their future.

The MOFA indicated that Taiwan and China are not subservient to each other. This is a long-standing fact and it is the status quo across the Strait.

As a responsible member of the Indo-Pacific, Taiwan will continue to work with like-minded partners such as the G7 countries to safeguard the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law, as well as promote prosperity and stability. around the world, the ministry said.
