Taiwan seizes a ship with a Chinese name that could have damaged an undersea cable

MADRID Jan. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Taiwan Coast Guard has intercepted a ship with a Chinese name and a Cameroonian flag, the ‘Shunxin39’, allegedly responsible for the damage suffered by an international underwater telecommunications cable laid north of the island.

The telecommunications company Chunghwa Telecom detected the ship on Friday in an area northeast of the town of Yeliu, for which it requested the intervention of the Coast Guard, according to the Taiwanese news agency CNA.

A Coast Guard vessel left Keelung and located the Chinese ship in the area and ordered it to approach port for an inspection.

The Prosecutor’s Office is already investigating responsibility for the incident.
