“The upcoming visit of a delegation from the Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay is welcomed by the Government and the people of Taiwan”, reported the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

The delegation is headed by the president of the Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay, Carlos María López López, and also includes Teófilo Espínola Peralta, Édgar Espínola Guerrero and Rodrigo Daniel Blanco Amarilla, who serve as presidents of the social development commissions; national defense and intelligence; and childhood, youth and development, respectively.

During their five-day stay, the delegation will be received in audience by President Tsai Ing-wen and meet with Legislative Yuan Chairman You Si-kun and Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, as well as attend a banquet hosted by Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Tah-Ray Yui.

Members of the delegation will also visit the Ministry of Economy, the Council for Mainland China Affairs, the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and the nation’s Foreign Trade Development Council.

“In addition, they will tour key cultural and social facilities, such as Taipei 101 and the National Palace Museum located in the capital,” the ministry said.

According to MOFA, “Lopez is a staunch friend who expressed strong opposition when China conducted live-fire military exercises in the waters surrounding Taiwan last August. The president of the Chamber of Deputies reiterated that, as a reliable ally, Paraguay will remain united with the people of the nation.”

With formal diplomatic ties for more than 65 years, the two sides continue to expand their cooperation in a wide spectrum of fields, MOFA said.

“The visit of the parliamentarians will help update the South American ally on the situation across the Strait and the economic, political and social development of the nation, while promoting more exchanges between the two parties,” the ministry added.
