Taiwanese Vice President Lai Ching-te he claimed that Taiwan is committed to working with Caribbean and Latin American countries to further their contributions to the international community.
Lai made these statements when receiving a delegation from Club Formosa in Latin America and the Caribbean, at the Presidential Office in the city of Taipei.
According to Lai, although Taiwan is a sovereign nation and has the right to participate in world affairs, its efforts to do so are limited by interference from China.
The vice president added that Taiwan “does not allow itself to be intimidated” and will continue to safeguard its freedom and democracy while maintaining regional peace and stability.

Lai expressed deep appreciation to the club members for their advocacy for Taiwan’s international involvement, including posting messages on social media, writing and signing letters to international organization leaders, and passing resolutions in the legislative bodies of their respective countries.
For his part, Rubén Horacio Manzi, a member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies, spoke on behalf of the delegation and stressed the importance that all members of the group attach to defending the values of freedom, democracy and diversity. Furthermore, he praised Taiwan’s transparent system and its pursuit of technological development.
Manzi expressed his best wishes for happiness and prosperity to the people of Taiwan, adding that he had no doubt that Taiwan would continue to be a beacon of democracy.
