Following the explosions in Poland, which caused two deaths, the Taiwanese government published a short statement condemning Russia, which the international community holds responsible.
“Russia carried out missile attacks against major Ukrainian cities and energy facilities,” the statement said, “in addition, a city in eastern Poland also suffered a missile attack. These military actions have caused innumerable civilian victims.
“The Taiwanese government expresses its deep concern and regret over the above events. Taiwan again condemns any violation of the UN Charter that undermines peace through the military invasion of another country, calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urges the rapid resumption of peaceful dialogue,” he adds.

In addition, the document maintains that “as a member of the international democratic community, Taiwan resolutely upholds the universal fundamental values of democracy, freedom, the rule of law and human rights.”
“Taiwan reiterates its respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and opposes the use of force or coercion to unilaterally change the status quo.”
Finally, the communiqué calls for peace, saying that “the parties must reconcile their differences through dialogue and peaceful and rational consultations, within the framework of international law. Taiwan will continue to coordinate closely with the United States, European nations, and other like-minded countries to take appropriate steps to help Ukraine end the war early and restore regional and world peace and stability.”
