Taiwan’s Ministry of Economy announced this Wednesday that it has extended restrictions on exports to Russia and Belarus due to the sanctions imposed against the Russian authorities for the war in Ukraine.
The items that have been added to the watch list — a total of 52 — are related to nuclear power, chemicals, or tools and machinery.
The ministerial portfolio has explained through a statement that the objective of these export controls is based on compliance “with international cooperation” and to “prevent Taiwan’s high-tech products from being used for military purposes.”
With this, Economy has urged exporters to comply with export regulations “and to act with due diligence before making transactions to Russia and Belarus.”
The Taiwanese authorities condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, adding to the sanctions imposed by the international community after the start of the war, which began on February 24.
China considers the island part of its territory, although it is true that Taiwan has been governed by independent authorities since 1949.
