The Taiwan authorities reported this Thursday the deportation of two Chinese citizens who allegedly committed acts of “harassment” and “interference” in a pro-democracy event organized by Hong Kong citizens in exile on the occasion of China’s National Day. .
Taiwan has provided shelter to thousands of Hong Kongers who have moved from the Chinese special administrative region to the island despite the fact that Beijing continues to consider this territory another province under its sovereignty. Many of them have left mainland China following the imposition of the new national security law, which critics say undermines the freedoms and rights of Hong Kong people.
On Tuesday, these residents called for a series of protests in the center of Taipei, the Taiwanese capital, coinciding with the Chinese holiday, although the two Chinese citizens approached those present, pushing them and shouting insults until the Police intervened. .
The Taiwanese Mainland Affairs Council has confirmed that the two Chinese citizens who were involved in the incident have had their visas revoked and have therefore been deported back to China, according to a statement.
“The Government will take immediate and strict measures against any Chinese who comes to Taiwan and engages in illegal or irregular behavior that endangers our national security and social stability,” he stated.
This is not the first time this type of incident has occurred in Taiwan. In 2019, Hong Kong activist and singer Denis Ho was attacked by a masked man who threw red paint at her during a protest in Taiwan against the Chinese government.
