The Taiwan Ministry of Defense has denounced this Saturday that ten Chinese combat aircraft have temporarily crossed its security line within a new series of approaches that the island’s authorities denounce as a pressure maneuver, part of Beijing’s sovereign ambitions. about the area.
On its Twitter account, the Ministry has identified 18 fighter jets and four ships of the Chinese Navy at around 06:00 local time. A dozen of the planes crossed the so-called “Davis line”, which marks the middle of the Taiwan Strait before turning back.
As has happened on so many other occasions, Taiwanese forces have activated a provisional alert among their air and sea forces, as well as their missile systems.
In this particular case, it should be remembered that Beijing had threatened unspecified reprisals if the President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing Wen, now on a tour of the Americas, ended up meeting with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
The president could meet McCarthy in Los Angeles, during a layover on her return flight to Taipei from Central America.
