July 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Taiwan’s security forces have begun a series of annual military exercises that include a series of drills against possible attacks by China, which considers the island to be another province under its sovereignty.
The ‘Han Kuang’ maneuvers are one of the most important for the Taiwanese Army and last approximately a week, in which the Armed Forces simulate a military response to a possible invasion of Chinese troops against the island.
The command includes all kinds of troops and exercises by land, sea and air, according to information from the magazine ‘Nikkei Asia’. It is expected that this Tuesday, the president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing Wen, will board a ship to supervise the maneuvers of some twenty ships and several fighters near the Suao military base, in the southeast of the island.
The military exercises take place before the possible visit of the president of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to Taipei, the capital, although Pelosi herself has refused to give details about it.
The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has indicated that the Pentagon does not support the idea of Pelosi traveling to the island, an issue that would cause an increase in tension with the Asian giant.
