Al Golani promises that the factions that overthrew Al Assad “will be dissolved” and their fighters will join the Ministry of Defense
Dec. 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The leader of the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) and strongman of Syria, Ahmed Hussein al Shara (known as Abu Mohamed al Golani) has defended before a delegation of diplomats from the United Kingdom the “need to lift all sanctions imposed on Syria to allow refugees to return to their country.”
In a meeting held this Monday in the Syrian capital, Damascus, the jihadist leader aimed to “restore relations” with the United Kingdom, a country of which he highlighted its “important role at the international level.”
Likewise, as reported on Telegram, the HTS leader “pointed out the need to build the rule of law and institutions and establish security”, after the legacy of the “criminal” regime of Bashar al Assad, which “destroyed everything, even state institutions and attacked all sects.
Al Golani celebrated that “what happened in Syria is a victory of the oppressed people over the criminal oppressor” and that it took place “without infrastructure and any displacement.”
He previously posted a message about his meeting with representatives of the Druze community, which made up about three percent of Syria’s pre-war population, according to some estimates.
During the meeting, the jihadist leader promised that the factions of fighters who overthrew Al Assad “will be dissolved and their fighters prepared to join the ranks of the Ministry of Defense, and all will be subject to the law.”
“We must have a State mentality, and not an opposition, since Syria must remain united. There must be a social contract between the State and all sects to guarantee social justice,” he expressed.
Along these lines, the priority of the new Syrian authorities is to manage things “from an institutional and legal point of view” and “seek the best for the Syrian people” in the face of the high scope of destruction and the “exhausting” reality facing the country.
In this context, he has called to unite “the efforts of all Syrians inside and outside” Syria to “work as a team” to address the country’s needs: “Control the industrial sector and development plans at the service of security food, since the human resources of the regime are low and its state is deteriorating culturally and socially.
