MADRID Dec. 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Military Operations Command, the alliance of jihadists and Syrian rebels who led the offensive that led to the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime, announced this Wednesday the lifting of the curfew imposed in the country’s capital, Damascus, and have asked the population to return to work to “contribute to the reconstruction of a new Syria.”
“To the people of the city of Damascus and its surroundings: we inform you of the withdrawal of the curfew imposed in the city. We ask the people to return to their jobs,” he indicated in a message broadcast through the Telegram account of the alliance.
The offensive in Syria, launched on November 27 from the province of Idlib and led by the Hayat Tahrir al Sham group (HTS, Levant Liberation Organization), allowed jihadists and rebels to take the capital and put an end to the Syrian regime. Al Assad family, in power since 1971, faced with a constant withdrawal of government troops, backed by Russia and Iran.
The rebel alliance entered Damascus on December 8, prompting government forces to abandon the town. Subsequently, it imposed a curfew between 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. (local time), a measure that was also extended to other Syrian cities, such as Tartus and Latakia.
