The Syrian authorities have announced the neutralization of twelve suspected terrorists in a confrontation in the province of Idlib, located in the northwest of the country and under the control of rebel groups, the main one of which is Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS).
“Our brave Armed Forces heroically responded to a massive attack launched by terrorist groups in the south of Idlib, from the direction of Al Bara and Kansafra,” the Syrian Defense Ministry said.
Thus, he pointed out in a statement published on his website that the attackers “took advantage of the fog after an intense firefight with heavy weapons against the positions of the (government) forces in the area.”
“The terrorist attack lasted for hours and resulted in great losses among the terrorists in terms of equipment and lives. Twelve terrorists were killed or wounded,” he stressed, before adding that among the dead was “a terrorist leader.”
HTS, a coalition of militias that includes former fighters from al-Nusra Front, the defunct Syrian affiliate of al Qaeda, is the main group in the province. In Idlib, various armed groups also operate with the support of Turkey, which has also deployed soldiers in this province.
