Syria denounces air strikes by Israeli planes against southern Damascus

Oct. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Syrian authorities have denounced this Friday air strikes allegedly carried out by Israeli planes against the south of the capital, Damascus, as confirmed by military sources to the state news agency SANA.

“Our air defense means acted and shot down most of the Israeli projectiles,” the source said, adding that the attacks were carried out at 11:03 p.m. (local time) from a northeast direction.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has confirmed the attacks and has indicated that several missiles have hit an area near the Damascus International Airport, as well as the south of the Rif Dimashq governorate. .

At least five Syrian soldiers died on September 17 as a result of a bombing that the Israeli Armed Forces would have carried out at the Damascus International Airport, while Syria also reported on September 7 that at least one person and another five were injured by a similar attack.

Damascus denounced the bombing the day before, September 6, and confirmed material damage to the airport, although it did not comment on the victims that same day. The airfield had already been attacked on August 31, also by Israeli forces, according to Syria.

The Israeli Army has carried out dozens of bombings in Syria, arguing that they are acting to prevent the establishment of Iranian bases in the country and the sending of weapons to the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah by the Iranian authorities, which support Damascus in the framework of the war that broke out in 2011.
