Among all the new features presented today by Synology, the most striking is the new Synology DP range of rack storage devices. These new devices specialize in backup solutions compatible with all types of environments and integrate a new operating system called Active Protect.
They are purely oriented to achieve a backup environment for companies that offers a global solution to all business needs, with heterogeneous sources, and configurable in less than 10 minutes. A specialization that is undoubtedly based on the “Active Backup” solution for its NAS based on the DSM operating system.
This new system is compatible with a wide variety of sources such as Windows, Mac and Linux clients, Synology servers (DSM) and any other Linux-based one. online (SaaS) services such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 and virtual machines based on hypervisors such as Microsoft’s Hyper-V or Broadcomm’s VMWare.
But the real potential is not only in the backup, with capacity for complete immutability, but also in the recovery services that allow recoveries in the cloud, virtual machines created on the NAS itself, Worm backup recovery (Write One Ready Many) or the classic recoveries of individualized folders and files.
Another of its advantages is that it can be integrated into environments where the classic Synology solution is already working, applying the same concept of centralized management and deduplication occurs locally, even in infrastructures with multiple physical locations, so data transit is also lower and therefore recovery speeds are higher.
Synology promises up to 7x more backup performance with a 2:1 deduplication ratio and therefore significantly reduces operating costs. This new specific hardware will be released in the coming weeks at prices that have not yet been confirmed, but for now only in Rack format.
