Switzerland to hold combined troop exercises for the first time in more than 30 years

November 18 () –

The Government of Switzerland has reported this Friday that during the coming week, from November 22 to 28, it will hold a series of joint troop training, in which more than 5,000 soldiers will participate, for the first time since 1989.

According to a statement from the Executive, the maneuvers will take place in the cantons of Bern, Solothurn, Aaragau, Lucerne and Zurich, and will aim to improve “the interaction between the different troop elements for the development of land forces.”

“The ‘PILUM 22’ exercise provides for the formations involved to train standard procedures and confrontations against armed groups,” said the Government, which pointed out that mechanized and logistic battalions and mountain infantry will participate in the maneuvers.

From Berne they have assured that these exercises have been in preparation and design for two years, since with it it is a question of testing the Armed Forces when facing “a case of armed conflict, even on the ground”.
