During the first half of the fiscal year from April to September, Switch has sold 6.68 million consoles, 19.2% less than during the same period of the previous year. The division between models is as follows: Switch 2.23 million, Switch OLED 3.52 million and Switch Lite 0.92 million. Nintendo explains this decline by the shortage of semiconductors. For its part, software sales rose 1.6% to 95.41 million units thanks to the launch of titles such as Splatoon 3 and catalog games.
All in all, Nintendo’s sales during the past semester were 656.9 billion yen (4.49 billion euros), 5.2% more than a year ago. The business dedicated to consoles grew by 5.7% to reach 631.4 million yen (4,317 million euros), while that of mobile phones experienced a year-on-year drop of 7.5%. This increase in income is explained, in part, by the depreciation of the yen. Regarding profit, it was 230.4 million yen (1,575 million euros), 34.1% more than a year ago.
Regarding forecasts for the fiscal year, Nintendo reports that when it comes to reducing the number of Switches sold from 21 to 19 million, it has taken into account the consoles placed so far and production, which is still affected by the lack of semiconductors. Despite this, the company has increased its sales and profit forecast by 3.1% and 17.6%, respectively. For the Christmas campaign, Nintendo says that it will spare no expense when choosing the means of transport that allows it to distribute as many consoles as possible.
Finally, mention that sooner than later Nintendo Switch will exceed the 116.6 million consoles that PlayStation 4 managed to sell. When that happens, it will only have two portables ahead, Game Boy (118.69 million) and Nintendo DS (154 .02 million), and PS2 (155 million).
