Swedish Intelligence has denounced this Thursday that Iranian authorities have made use of criminal networks in Sweden in recent years to carry out “acts of violence” and try to destabilize national security.
“Iran has carried out security-threatening activities in and against Sweden for several years. Historically, its activities have primarily targeted opposition groups and individuals within the Iranian diaspora,” reads a statement from Swedish Intelligence.
Likewise, the Iranian authorities have also acted against the security of representatives of other States that in Tehran are considered “enemies of the regime”, among which Stockholm includes Israel or Jewish interests abroad.
“Iran has previously used violence in other European countries with the aim of silencing critical voices and perceived threats to its own regime (…) The Security Police can confirm that this also occurs in Sweden,” says Intelligence .
“In recent years, the Security Police has dealt with several specific cases in which assassination plots linked to the Iranian security services were prevented and in which, among other things, criminal networks were used as proxies,” adds the written.
Thus, Swedish Intelligence has highlighted that security forces have taken, and will continue to take, “measures to prevent, reject and reduce opportunities for Iran to carry out activities that threaten security.”
