Iranian authorities have reported the arrest of a Swedish national accused of spying for Israel, Iranian public television reported.
“The suspect entered the country a few months ago after the arrest of another European spy,” state television said, citing a statement from the Intelligence Ministry.
The suspect was in contact inside Iran with “other European and non-European suspects” and had even traveled to Israel. He traveled to Iran to obtain information about the arrest of another European agent, according to this source.
Iran accuses Israel of the recurring deadly attacks against Iranian scientists working for the nuclear program or for the ballistic missile program. In recent months, Iran has reported the arrest of two European citizens for trying to provoke “chaos, instability and social disorder.”
Last Thursday, Tehran announced the arrest of five people allegedly belonging to a network linked to Mossad, just a few days after it claimed to have dismantled a group allegedly made up of Israeli spies.
The Intelligence Organization of the Legislation Command detailed that among the detainees is a “separatist leader” who would maintain ties with “the intelligence services of the Zionist regime.”
