The Swedish Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in Stockholm, Viktor Tatárintsev, on Monday for a publication by the Russian Embassy on social networks in which he would have described a Swedish citizen killed in Ukraine as a “common mercenary”.
In the post, published on Facebook, the Russian Embassy in Sweden asked the journalists for “rigor” in the face of the information published on the death of a Swedish citizen in the war in Ukraine, questioning the veracity of the news, to the time he described the Swedish citizen as a “common mercenary”.
“It is deeply regrettable that in preparing materials on the identity of a former Swedish Armed Forces officer, journalists have once again forgotten the key principle of their work – objectivity, trying to create a positive and highly moral image of this mercenary. common,” read the Facebook message.
In a meeting held this afternoon in the Swedish capital, the Swedish Foreign Minister, Ann Linde, reproached Tatarintsev for the post published by her Embassy, while condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, according to the SVT chain.
“The text is reprehensible and in bad taste. The embassy does not mention at all that it WAS Russia that started the war and that only Russia can end it,” Linde later told ‘Dagens Nyhete’.
On July 19, several Swedish media reported the death of a 28-year-old citizen who, participating in the war in Ukraine, lost his life in the outskirts of the city of Kharkov, in the east of the country.
