As reported by Kyodo Newsa special court in Myanmar has sentenced deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi to three more years in prison with hard labor for electoral fraud, according to local media reports.
Since the military overthrew her democratically elected government in a coup in February 2021 and arrested her, Suu Kyi has been tried on multiple charges and now faces 20 years in prison.
She was sentenced along with two other people in the fraud case: former President Win Myint and former cabinet member Min Thu, according to reports citing judicial sources. Win Myint and Min Thu also received the same prison term.
The three were accused of abusing their authority over the election commission for the November 2020 general election, in which Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party won a landslide victory.

The 77-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate and icon of the opposition to the Myanmar military has already been convicted of incitement, corruption, violation of the new coronation regulations and the illegal importation and use of walkie-talkies.
She was sentenced along with two other people in the fraud case: former President Win Myint and former cabinet member Min Thu.
His trial was held behind closed doors and the authorities have asked his lawyers not to comment publicly.
