Haitian authorities have identified new suspects in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in July 2021, including a pastor and a known gang member.
Police spokesman Garry Desrosiers told Radio Télévision Caraïbes on Friday that arrest warrants have also been issued for eight police officers.
None of the new suspects have been arrested and it was unclear what role they would have played.
Desrosiers identified the gang member as Vitel’Homme Innocent, leader of the Kraze Barye (which roughly means “Breaking Through Barriers”) gang leader. He is also wanted by the FBI, which accuses him of participating in the kidnapping of 17 American missionaries in October 2021.
The spokesman did not provide details or respond to requests for comment.
More than 40 suspects are in custody.including at least 18 Colombian soldiers accused of trespassing on Moïse’s private residence, an attack in which his wife was injured.
Eleven other suspects are in jail in the United States, including a former senator and other senior Haitian figures.
