8 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
A group of alleged “bandits” has kidnapped about 80 young people who were collecting wood in the Nigerian state of Zamfara, in the northeast of the country, according to their relatives.
The incident occurred around 08:00 in the morning on Friday near the town of Wanzamai, when the young people were collecting firewood, according to what the parents of some of those kidnapped have told the Hausa service of the British channel BBC.
The Nigerian government designates as “bandits”, in general, the criminal groups that operate in various parts of the country, with special incidence in Zamfara and Kaduna, and that engage in kidnapping and blackmail.
In November 2021, the Nigerian High Court declared these organizations “terrorist groups” to facilitate military operations against their members.
In this case, the “bandits” have not yet demanded a ransom for the young, so the parents are waiting.
