Corus Entertainment scripted production executive Susan Alexander is leaving the company after 16 years.
During her tenure at the Canadian broadcasting group, Alexander oversaw the development and production of dozens of scripted series, including the legal drama Family Law (Global), the young adult drama Geek Girl (YTV, Netflix) and Mary Kills People (Global, Lifetime).
Alexander revealed his departure via a LinkedIn post on Sunday, noting that he would “be leaving Corus Entertainment to pursue other opportunities in our industry.”
She becomes the latest content executive to leave Corus as the company continues to shrink amid a stock market slump that has seen its share price fall to around 14 Canadian cents per share.
While the stock had been struggling for the past two years, the news that Corus lose your brand and licensing agreements for lifestyle brands owned by Warner Bros Discovery, including HGTV, Food Network and Magnolia, has caused the stock price to plummet. Key executives who have left the company in the past three months include former CEO Doug Murphy, Chief Revenue Officer Greg McLelland and Athena Georgaklis, vice president of Nelvana Studios.
Programming executives remaining at the embattled Canadian broadcaster include Lynne Carter (head of original programming), Debbie Brown (production executive), Jesse Barkley (unscripted original programming development and production executive) and vice president of original programming and director of Corus Studios, Rachel Nelson. .
“What a privilege it has been to collaborate on over 500 episodes of great Canadian content for Global, Showcase, W, YTV, Treehouse and History,” said Alexander.
“I’ve worked with incredible people both at Corus and in the independent production community, and I look forward to continuing to build on that legacy.”
