Nov. 16. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The “super typhoon” ‘Pepito’ made landfall this Saturday in the Philippine province of Catanduanes, in the east of the country, currently in a state of emergency due to the arrival of this system, which presents sustained winds of 200 km/h with maximum gusts of 240 km/h, according to the national meteorological office, PAGASA.

‘Pepito’ is officially a Category 5 tropical cyclone, the most dangerous alert on the PAGASA index, which here applies to Catanduanes and the northeastern portion of Camarines Sur.

This alert will remain in effect for the next 12 hours while authorities urge the population to take shelter from the “potentially catastrophic impact” of this typhoon.

At the moment, more than 650,000 people have left their homes in search of shelter before the arrival of this system, which is already leaving waves 14 meters high around Catanduanes.

It should be remembered that at least 163 people have died in the five storms that have hit the Philippines in recent weeks, which also left thousands of people homeless and devastated crops and livestock.
