After a long wait, Nintendo finally showed what Mario and more characters from Super Mario Bros. in the first 3D animated film in the series. The character design gave a lot to talk about, but the consensus is very positive. However, the trailer has just confirmed a disturbing feature of the Toads and probably more characters.
The new trailer finally let us see what the voice of some of the characters in the animation is like, including secondary characters like Kamek. With everything that was presented, it was normal for many to go unnoticed by a small key detail that could completely change the design of some characters.

The Toads of Super Mario do they have teeth?
We say this because the trailer confirmed what seemed to be seen in the official poster: the Toads have teeth, as revealed by the scene in which Mario interacts with Toad, who, when smiling, exposes his lined and white teeth.
The above may seem futile to some, but the truth is that it marks a before and after in the history of the designs of this and other characters in the series.
This is the first time Toad can be seen in 3D and fully animated with teeth. Until now, never in the 37 years in which he has appeared has he been seen with teeth in any video game. However, only in an official illustration of Game & Watch Gallery 4 he appeared with teeth, which were necessary to show his expression of anger.
In case you missed it: This is how beautiful Princess Peach will look in the movie Super Mario Bros..

More Mushroom Kingdom characters will have teeth in the movie Super Mario Bros.
The Toads won’t be the only inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom to appear for the first time with teeth. In the trailer Kamek also sports teeth beyond just the fangs that he shows in the video games. Penguins and King Penguin also have teeth, despite the fact that in video games and in real life this species does not have teeth.
This will have an importance beyond what you imagine, since apparently Illumination and Nintendo decided to put teeth on all the characters. This will be historical also for all the female human characters of Super Mario, Well, until now neither in video games nor in official illustrations have Princess Peach, Rosalina or Pauline been seen with teeth, unlike male characters such as Mario and Luigi. The only “normal” human with teeth in the Mushroom Kingdom is the Princess of Sarasaland, Daisy.
Out of the recurring female human characters in the Mario series, only Daisy regularly has teeth. This affects both official art and in-game models; in the vast majority of cases, Peach, Rosalina and Pauline simply have no teeth modeled inside their mouths. pic.twitter.com/vYe04PrMMa

The movie of Super Mario Bros. I could have more secrets kept
What other secrets will the film keep? Super Mario Bros.? We do not know, but apparently it will give a lot to talk about. We don’t want to anticipate anything, but we want you to remember that there are more disturbing details of Toad that could very well appear in the animated film.
For example, there has always been a question as to whether the bump on Toad’s head is actually his head or whether it is a hat. Doubt was planted by the old caricature The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, which is considered canon. In it, Toad was sometimes seen removing his hat and revealing his bald head.

In 2018, however, the creative of the franchise and producer of super mario odyssey, Yoshiaki Koizumi, dispelled doubts by revealing that what Toad wears on his head is part of his head. It is important to mention that Koizumi was not the designer of the Toads, apart from the fact that he did not seem very convinced with that statement, and he left the task to the fans to figure out what lies below.

However, we sincerely doubt that Illumination AND Nintendo would want to feature the Toads without the top of their heads, unless they want kids—and adults—to have nightmares.
But we are in the cinematic universe of Super Mario Bros. and, seeing the liberties they are taking, anything can happen.
What did you think of the design of the Toads for the animated film? Would you like them to use it in the video games as well? Tell us in the comments.
