The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, assured this Friday that he will not hesitate to protect British interests in the Red Sea after the country’s Air Force carried out an attack this Thursday alongside US forces against positions of the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
“Last night, the Air Force successfully carried out a fifth battery of strikes against Houthi military targets in Yemen alongside the United States. These strikes have been carried out to degrade the military capabilities of the Houthis and prevent future attacks against international shipping,” he said. stated in a statement in which he referred to the actions launched by the rebels against ships linked to Israel in response to the offensive against the Gaza Strip.
In this sense, he has emphasized that these are acts of “self-defense” that are carried out “due to the growing threat posed by the Houthis” in the Middle East region. “The Houthis pose a serious threat. They have carried out 197 attacks since November and all our intelligence indicates that our attacks undermine their capabilities,” she argued.
The British Ministry of Defense confirmed on Thursday night that they had hit Houthi targets in response to attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Likewise, he has indicated that the rebels located in at least two towns near Hodeida are involved in this type of maritime attacks.
For their part, the Houthis have reported that at least two people have died and a dozen have been injured as a result of these bombings, as reported by the Al Masirah television channel, linked to the group.
