21 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has announced the appointment as ‘number two’ of the Government of Oliver Dowden, manager of the Duchy of Lancaster – a key source of income for the Crown – and an ally of the current Downing Street tenant, who is now trying to solve the loss of Dominic Raab after the accusations against him for alleged workplace harassment.
Raab had a double responsibility. On the one hand, he held the portfolio of Justice, and, on the other, he served as deputy prime minister, a position that does not always exist in the distribution of powers within the Government of the United Kingdom.
Sunak has decided to keep it, for which he has pulled Dowden, linked to the Government indirectly and who will retain the dukedom. The now deputy prime minister also held the presidency of the Conservative Party, which he resigned in June 2022 after a series of electoral defeats for the ‘tories’.
In Justice, the Prime Minister has appointed Alex Chalk, deputy since 2015 and until now Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence.
Raab announced this Friday his resignation from the two positions he held as a result of a series of accusations about alleged workplace harassment. In his farewell letter, he has claimed that he has never committed acts of harassment and has defended criticism or dismissal of people from his team as something intrinsic to his work, citing, for example, moments of tension in the negotiations with Spain for the future of Gibraltar .
