The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, and the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, have advocated this Saturday for “maintaining the record level” of international support for Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion, unleashed on February 24, 2022 by order of the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Sunak’s office has indicated that both leaders have met in the framework of the Munich Security Conference, where they have agreed that “recent international offers on combat tanks and other equipment will have a transformative impact on the ground “.
Sunak has also highlighted “the need for the allies not only to think about achieving peace in the short term, but about strengthening the defense of Ukraine in the long term”, while he has praised the role of Scholz in “eliminating” Germany’s energy dependence on Russia and “transform” its defense apparatus.
“The leaders have also discussed the importance of strengthening NATO and have expressed their support for the accession (to the Alliance) of Sweden and Finland,” the office of the ‘premier’ has riveted. The accession of Stockholm and Helsinki is awaiting ratification by Turkey and Hungary.
